Septic Pump-Out Project

Since 2005, the Northern Neck Planning District Commission (NNPDC) has administered grants through the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to provide financial assistance to low- and moderate-income (LMI) households and allow them to comply with septic-tank pump-out requirements.

As part of the application process, the NNPDC must verify an applicant’s household size and income, plus have proof that the applicant owns the property where the septic tank is located:

  • Household Size: Include the name and age of each person residing in the home.
  • Income: The first page of the applicant’s most recent tax-filing form (Form 1040, 1040A, or 1040-EZ) — OR — a copy of an award letter from Social Security or the Department of Social Services.
  • Proof of ownership: A copy of the most recent tax bill from the County.

By providing the above information, the NNPDC is able to determine eligibility and, when funds are available, move forward with setting up a septic pump-out appointment with a local, qualified septic hauler.

Household Income Limits: To qualify for assistance, refer to the chart below, relative to the county of residence and the number of persons living in the household. The dollar amount shown in the appropriate cell is the maximum income the household can have to qualify.
